 Founded
in 1905, the Kwa Zulu Natal Society of Arts (KZNSA) is a non-profit
organization (NPO) registered with the Department of Welfare.
One of the aims and objectives of the Society is to introduce
art programs that are vocational, therapeutic and creative
in an effort to cater for those who do not have access to
formal resources in the visual arts. In fulfilling these objectives
the KZNSA runs a Training Art Program (TAP) to address:
• art-educational disparities of disadvantaged people;
• the dynamic and healing role of art activities;
• creative self-expression and self-empowerment.
Teaching art and craft skills to adults and providing teaching
experiences for community artists are also dealt with by
the organisation.

• Tufted Wool Project (vocational/creative)
• Senzokuhle Project (vocational/creative)
• MDP Crèche (therapeutic)
• SANCA Art Therapy Project (therapeutic)
• Sonqoba Women’s Project (vocational/creative)
• Mosaic Workshop (vocational/creative)
• Westridge Ceramics Project ((vocational/creative)
• King George V Hospital School Project (educational/therapeutic)
Funding continues to be the greatest impediment to implementing
projects of this nature.
The KZNSA, itself an NPO, relies on the generosity of the
public and corporate community. The only project currently
running on TAP is the King George V Hospital School. This
has been made possible through the support of SHOES SA Charitable
Trust and Durban Thekweni Rotary Club.
