INVITATION TO ARTISTS FOR A PUBLIC ART INTERVENTION EThekwini Municipality is looking for 40 visual artists and crafters who will be given the opportunity to intersperse strategic urban spaces and create outstanding and innovative artwork. The final portfolio, titled, "WHO AM I.......NGINGUBANI?" will be showcased in September 2011. Selection for these artists will be done at 10H00 on 01 June 2011 at the Durban Art Gallery. All the selected participants will be expected to work for certain hours a day and transport fees will be provided. They will also be given materials to produce work, and the outcome of the works will form part of the Heritage exhibition that will be held in September 2011. A selection of works from the Durban Art Gallery's permanent collection will be displayed alongside these new creations, therefore providing a sense of continuity in terms of current discourses. Given the City's diverse and dynamic society, a web of old and new histories that are inscribed on the City's central business district, the greater eThekwini metropolis, the guiding theme is ‘My Heritage- My Identity'. Artists' interpretations of this theme may engage the paradigms that include land, space, environment and culture.
